Originally hailing from Toronto, Canada, Joon Park is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory as a student of Dr. Keith Benjamin. His previous teachers include Justin Emerich, Paul Merkelo, Christopher Smith, and Andrew Dunn. He received his Master of Music degree in 2018 from Michigan State University and earned his Bachelor of Music degree in 2016 from McGill University.  

Joon has performed with the New World Symphony, and appears regularly with the Brass Band of Battle Creek and the Fountain City Brass Band. He has also performed in masterclasses led by Mark Inouye, Billy Hunter, Tom Hooten, Thomas Rolfs, and many others. During the summers, Joon has attended the Blackburn Music Festival, National Music Festival, Brevard Music Center, Orford Music Academy, Bayview Chamber Music Festival, Domaine Forget International Music Festival. Additionally, Joon was offered a spot to attend the Aspen Music Festival in 2020.

As a recipient of the Graduate Brass Quintet Fellowship at UMKC, Joon is a current member of Volker Brass, which performs educational outreach and service concerts in the Kansas City area along with two recitals per semester. Volker Brass were semi-finalists at the 2020 Coltman Competition, national finalists in the 2019 Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Chamber Winds Competition and recipients of the American Brass Quintet Prize at the 2019 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

Joon has led a variety of clinics, masterclasses, and workshops throughout the American Midwest, including the “Musical Bridges” program underwritten by the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as providing educational clinics for the Brass Band of Battle Creek. As a Catherine Herrick Cobb Graduate Assistant at Michigan State University, Joon has taught undergraduate trumpet students and coached chamber ensembles. His book, Beyond the Scale for Trumpet, was recently published by Encore Music Publishers. Co-authored with Jacob Taitel, this educational resource takes trumpet players to new levels where scales become tools. These tools will allow players to polish their skills and reach new levels of technical mastery.
